Most Embarassing Moment

So I was at work on Wednesday and my water bottle ran to empty so I decided to go fill it up at the water cooler. I noticed there was only a small amount of water in the cooler and thus started the mental debate in my head. Well, I could wait a bit and come back later when it is full so I don't have to put on a new jug. Hmm... No I'm really thirsty I'll just do it. I fill my water bottle only to discover there is still a bit left and technically I could just leave and the next person would put on a new jug. But no I decide to put on a new jug of water. We have a whole process for sanitizing the water jug and cooler prior to putting on a new jug so I use the lysol wipes and sanitize everything. Then as I'm going to flip the jug over onto the cooler I drop it! Yeah that's right I drop the whole jug I don't know how many gallons of water one of those holds. It makes the loudest noise. Mind you at my office we are all in cubicals so I see heads pop up all over our floor craning to see what has just happened. Luckily the jug did not brake but the impact sent at least a gallon of water down the hall and covered four cubicles and the contents inside plus left a rather large puddle where it fell. I appologized for the disruption and carefully put the jug onto the water cooler. I'm not sure the lesson I was supposed to learn from this but I will be more careful when putting the water on the cooler. Sorry I didn't manage to take a picture.

Nathan Sings

This will be quick. I just wanted to document Nathan's first singing experience in church. Nathan is one of nine Sunbeam boys. Can you imagine? He is by far the youngest. He will be the only one that doesn't start kindergarden the same time the other boys do. Anyway, he has been to primary two whole times and they had the junior primary sing for a missionary farewell yesterday. The song was I am A Child of God, and he does know it since I've sang it to him since he was a baby. But I was a little nervous he would be afraid to walk up and sing in front of everyone. But when the bishop announced the junior primary should come up and sing he jumped right up and walked to the stand with some of his friends. Although those on either side of him were swinging ties or goofing around a bit Nathan stood still and watched the singing director. He knew most all the words to the first two verses. He knew the words so well in fact that he sang a little faster then the rest of the children. I was so proud. He did a great job. I took his picture when he got home so you can see how cute he looked.

Discovery Museum

Tuesday after work Nathan, Christy, and I headed to The Gateway for lunch with a couple friends from work. My parents were due to arrive back from Hawaii around 4 o'clock so we decided to go to the Discovery Museum at the Gateway in the mean time. This was our first time. It was a bit overpriced in my opinion but Nathan did have a blast and we could have spent several more hours there if I hadn't had to go back home for scouts. (My parents plane ended up being delayed.)

The first area is a maze of pipes and tubs for these plastic balls. I decided not to give instructions but to watch as Nathan discovered what each section did and how to gather balls to drop through different areas. It is amazing how creative and smart children can be. I think the one he ended up liking best was the vacuum. You open the door and put a ball in and it is sucked up the see through pipe and eventually dropped into a large tub where the children can collect balls to drop through different tubes.

The next area was a construction area which as you can imagine had Nathan's attention. It has cranes and large blocks for children to lift to the higher level with the cranes to build castles and houses and the such. This requires children working together. Nathan didn't know any of the children so I was interested to see how he interacted with the children that were there.
Next we headed over to the farm area where there is a horse to ride and a farm type market. Christy braved the horse but Nathan didn't want anything to do with it.
The super market was next. There was everything you would have in a regular store from shopping baskets to produce to registers with microphones and announcements being made. Nathan discovered the bakery and delighted to find he could "have" anything the other kids were having since none of it really had any wheat. He told me the doughnuts looked especially good.

Next we spent some time with the water area. I never did totally figure that place out. There are pin pong balls floating through the water so you can see the direction of the water and scoop the balls up in various activity stations. We couldn't figure out how to get the balls to the top of the mountain to watch the entire path of the water but Christy did try (throwing the ping pong ball up and trying to get them to land on the top.)

We spent a brief period in the birds nest area. It is more for younger children but they did have this cool chair Nathan enjoyed sitting in.

After that Nathan discovered the dress up outfits for firemen, policemen, and mailmen. He tried each one on and performed what duties he felt were required for each. In the firetruck he headed over to the gas station to fill er up. He drove the police car around talking on the radio. Then he delivered the mail to all the mail boxes over the first floor. He had this mail bag with letters and delivered one to each mail box. (Each area had a mail box). He would put the letter in and then raise the flag to let others know there was mail. By this time we only had a short time left so we encouraged him to go on to the next floor to see what was there.

It is a very creative area. One area had magnetic shapes to use to build. Another blocks that fit together and have instructions on ways to build patterns. There were chalk boards and hoola hoops, a paper blower and other various activities of which we were unable to spend any quality time at. Also on this floor there was a communication station. There was a pulley to deliver messages across the room as well as a tube to talk to the people on the other side.

The final activity we participated in was the theater. Children are so fun to watch. They had a three little pigs script and costumes. Nathan was the wolf and Christy was one of the pigs. Nathan had been huffing and puffing ever since. There was also costumes for the wild things. I read the story as Nathan acted as Max and another little boy acted as one of the wild things. Since this is one of Nathan's favorite books I have read it many times and was probably more into the play then the children. Soon the little sister of the boy came over and they decided to act out Peter Pan. Nathan was Captain Hook and the little boy was Peter Pan, the sister was tinker bell and kept singing Jingle Bells. It was so cute. Nathan definitely wanted to spend longer there but we had to leave.

Ryan Turns 30

So Ryan turned 30 this month. He says he doesn't feel any older. We celebrated several times the weeks prior to his birthday. On December 31st we spent a few hours shopping for his birthday present. He really needed a new suit ( I'll try to get a picture next Sunday.) Nordstroms was having it's semi annual men's sale so he got his suit, ties, and shirts there. We got his shoes, socks, and belt at Dillards so he is set for at least one day of the week. Sunday the 6th we celebrated with family at the Wagstaff's. Ryan likes pie lots more than cake so Grandma and Grandpa Kurz got him two pies for his party instead of the traditional cake.

Unfortunately shortly after we had eaten cake and before opening presents he received a call that he needed to go plow. He quickly opened presents and then was off to work. Monday we went to the Training table where Nathan entertained us with his funny sayings check out the side under "Funny Things Nathan Says".

Wednesday the 9th, his actual birthday I made Cafe Rio style burritos and we had the gang over to celebrate. I really meant to take more pictures but I just didn't this is all I got. We put all thirty candles on the cake as you can see. Oh did I mention he was up plowing at 3:30 that morning. I guess it could have been worse, he could have had to leave during his party again.
