Bailey's 5th Birthday

In order to hold Nathan off on Halloween as long as possible I told him first it was his birthday then Grandma Wagstaff's birthday then Bailey's birthday and then Halloween. Well the 25th was Bailey's 5th birthday. Nathan colored a birthday hat for her and I made a wheat free chocolate oatmeal cake so Nathan could share in the festivities. Ryan gave Bailey the biggest bone I have ever seen. We blew up balloons and sang happy birthday. It helped that Nathan got to dress up the next day for playgroup so it really did seem like Halloween was right after Bailey's birthday. Anyway since Nathan came along Bailey gets the short end of the stick. When she was 2 Emily threw her a surprise birthday party and since then we haven't done too much in the way of celebrating.

Wyoming in October

We drove up to Wyoming to celebrate my grandpa's 90th birthday. Following the celebration we drove onto Afton to spend the weekend with my family. Saturday night it snowed like crazy and we had 6-8 inches the next morning. Nathan was sooo happy. He had been asking to play in the snow flakes even before it snowed. Sunday after church my dad recommended building a snowman since it had snowed over half a foot. It was perfect snow and had gotten warmer and was a great afternoon. We really had a fun trip.

If you look close you can see Ryan holding the cake. My boss Mike Friedrichs is from Big Piney and whenever there is an article on Pampa he cuts it out for me.

Nathan's 3rd Birthday

What a great weekend! Saturday morning we had eight of Nathan's friends to our house for a birthday party. We were sad it was too cold and rainy to be outside to actually play baseball, since this was a baseball party. But we did get to play lots of fun indoor games with a baseball theme. We played baseball darts, bat bat ball (duck duck goose), musical bases (with really fun baseball music), pin the ball on the field, and don't eat Pete. The kids had fun with the baseball pinata. (It was surprisingly easy to make.) I bought a baseball card pin up with a spot for two kids to poke their heads through so we took Nathan's picture with each of his friends. The kids had baseball cupcakes and got popcorn goodie bags with things like cracker jacks, Baby Ruth candy bars, whistles (I'm sure their parents love me for that one), wiffle balls, etc.
My mom, dad, and Christy were able to visit with us this weekend. It was sure fun to see them and enjoy general conference. Christy sounds happy up at school. I guess mono has come in handy more than once. I'll let Christy share those stories with you.

Monday night we had a family birthday party for Nathan on his actual birthday. Amber made this incredible cake. We had baseball foods like: popcorn, peanuts, hot dogs, nachos, soda, and chips. To give the nachos more substance I made Cafe Rio pork (Lizzy's recipe) along with every topping I could think of for nachos. Unlike Saturday, Monday was a beautiful fall day and Nathan was able to play lots of baseball. He really does love baseball. He has everything a kid could possibly need for baseball. He's got several bats and balls, a mitt, baseball gloves, actual bases, a tee (that he refuses to use he wants someone pitching to him all the time), a bat bag, a helmet and a yard big enough to play. He got so many fun gifts. Including some of the baseball things mentioned above, golf clubs that are his size, books, match box cars and roadways, a football, a stick horse (he is going to be a cowboy for Halloween and really wanted a stick horse that neighs), WAGS shirts, Buzz Lighyear, play dough, automotive signs and cars, clothes, dart gun, really fun board games, puzzle, spider man motorcycle, coloring book, a crash car, doctor set, and video. So spoiled. We had built up his birthday a lot over the past few weeks making invitations and decorations. I was a little worried it would be a let down when it was all over.
We have been seeing more and more Halloween decorations lately and yesterday he said as we were going into Albertson's they have Halloween here but we don't have it at our house. I told him after his birthday we would. So this morning the first thing he wanted to do was get our Halloween decorations out. He is upstairs right now with his cowboy boots on riding his stick horse.

Summer 2007

We have had a busy summer. But it's hard to believe it is over. As a family we took two trips to Lake Powell. That is always an enjoyable family vacation. Nathan is getting more and more comfortable in the water and started swimming with his life jacket pretty well. Nathan and I spent many afternoons at the pool. We are so glad he enjoys the water. Nathan is a good sport and adapts easily to whatever is going on in our lives. He loves to visit grandma and grandpa Scherbel in Afton. And is so lucky to have grandma Wagstaff watch him on the days I have to go into work. He enjoyed seeing all his cousins this summer and misses them. He asks daily who is coming over today? We started potty training a few weeks ago and he is doing really well. Ryan is the scout master in our ward and attended a week long camp with 15 boys between the ages of 12 and 13. He also spent a week in Wyoming with several of his workers landscaping the pond in Star Valley. And as usual has been very busy with work this summer. I was the girls camp director. I really had a lot of fun camping and hanging out with the young women in our ward. We did an ER theme (Eternal Rewards). There are of course some things I'd do different but all in all it went really well. While it is hard to see the summer come to an end we always look forward to football season. We have season tickets to the U of U games. While they haven't started this season off all that well the UCLA game was so much fun to be at. And going to the games together is fun at any rate. We traveled to Las Vegas to watch them beat UNLV and were disappointed that the Utes lost. But we had a fun little vacation anyway. Plus we got to go to the Cheesecake Factory and In N Out. What more could you want? Nathan loved FAO Schwartz, namely the big piano and the M & M factory. He also had so much fun with his friends that were down there with us.
